Yin Yoga is a safely challenging space to open into both the body and mind. Taking familiar seated and floor-bound postures and moving the emphasis from our traditional muscle-enhancing yang practices into the releasing yin aspect we can encourage deeper health of our organs, joints, and energetic body. Utilizing gravity as the main prop, Yin Yoga places steady, appropriate stress upon the body in a manner that stimulates us at the edge of our comfortable range of motion. Long holds in each pose challenge us to remain steady within our minds, while simultaneously increasing the flow of energy to our subtle body through the meridian channels. Some effects of this form of practice are increased fluidity in the joints, greater flexibility and range of motion, better understanding of our physical and emotional holding patterns, ability to be with difficulty, and a calm mind.
